Humpback Whales
Spy
Hopping
Well the Humpback
Whale watching season just keep
on getting better, despite a few days of North-Westerly winds that
made life a little choppy earlier in the week, although if you look
at the photo above taken on Tuesday you can see that Hervey
Bay's Version of rough isn't too bad compared to the open
sea.
The whales have
been really playing up for the guests, a little known
fact is that the whale tend to be a lot more active when the seas
are a bit choppy. Tuesday was excellent with lots of small pods of
between 1 and 4 whales moving around and doing lots of activities
that the guests want to see like the amazing breaching and tail
slaps.
The subjects in the main
photo shown my Whale Watching Term of the Week
"Spy Hop" this is when the whales
poke their heads up out of the water to have a look at what all the
fuss is about up on the boats. Out on the water scale can be hard to
determine, but it can be over 3 meters from the tip of a whales nose
back to his eye, it's amazing when a Humpback Whale does a full spy
hop only meters from your face and you actually have to look up at
him!!!
I am going
to start a weekly question with a prize for the first correct
answer...
This weeks
Question: What Colour is a Humpback Whales eye's?
Prize is a Quick Cat 2 Stubby Cooler,
remember the
winner is the first to reply with the correct answer. I will put the
winner in next weeks
report.
We still
have a couple of seats available for tomorrows Whale Watching Tour,
I would love to have some of your guests
aboard.
Have a Whale of
a Week
