Sunshine Coast Whale Watching

The Sunshine Coast has many land based opportunities to whale whales from mid June to early November, the points & headlands at Noosa , Coolum and Point Cartwright are the best locations. 

The premier Sunshine Coast Whale Watching Boat is Whale One from the Wharf Mooloolaba (formerly operated by Australia Zoo) , they operate daily whale watch cruises from Mid June to early November. Morton Island is located to the South-East of the Sunshine Coast, all the Humpback whales migrating  up the East coast must pass Cape Morton this zone about 5-12 Nm off the coast is know as the Whale Highway.

Hervey Bay Whale Watch Cruises

Hervey Bay (because of the way it's said a lot of people spell it Harvey Bay) is approx 2.5hours drive North of the Sunshine Coast, this recognised as one of the top locations in the World to see Humpback Whales. The whales stop to rest in Platypus Bay on the sheltered western side of Fraser Island between July and October. The first whales to visit in July and Early August are the sub-adults who have migrated north from the Antarctic, next we see the Large females with newborn calves in late August through to Early October, it is important for the calves to rest feed and play in Hervey Bays sheltered warm waters whilst they build their blubber layer, fitness and skills they will need for the arduous migration back south to the whales Summer feeding grounds in the Antarctic Ocean.
